As early as 2014, the large Regional Archives in Vänersborg received about 1,000 square meters of solar cells on the roof. The plan was that over a ten-year period, the investment in one of Sweden’s largest roof-mounted solar cell systems would have paid off. This has been made possible through the collaboration with Nordisk Renting and the flexible model that enables additional investments.

The archive is the result of a collaboration between Region Västra Götaland and the City of Gothenburg. The property is owned by Nordisk Renting, with the Archives Board as the contracting party. Together with the construction company Skanska, Nordisk Renting won a public tender for the property in 2005. The house was completed in 2008.Environmental aspects have been important ever since the planning of the house, which is a passive house with a variety of solutions to minimize energy consumption and create an even climate.

The agreement with the Archives Board runs until 2041 and includes a repurchase option.

In addition to the solar cell system, several additional investments have been made in the form of expansions.
